Dan Kalousek

After graduating from gymnasium, he studied composition and conducting at the Conservatory in Brno. He graduated from orchestra conducting at JAMU in Brno’s Faculty of Music. In 2006- 2008, he studied at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig and there met conductors such as Kurt Masur, Fabio Luisi and Zsolt Nagy.

Since 2000, he has worked as choirmaster of Ars Brunensis. With this ensemble, he has done a lot of concerts all over Europe. As a conductor, he has worked with both Czech and foreign ensembles – with philharmonics and chamber orchestras such as The Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra or Czech Virtuosi, choirs such as Jenaer Madrigalkreis, Bohemiachor, Brněnský akademický sbor and theatres like National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, F. X. Šalda Theatre, Slovene National Theatre Maribor or Walensee-Bühne.

He has participated in projects with many prominent artists, e.g. Vladimír Franz, Jiří Pavlica.

As a conductor and musical director, he records film and stage music for leading Czech theatre scenes, radio and television stations and foreign productions alike. He has recorded a number of records, primarily songs by contemporary artists, for publishers such as Naxos, Vienna Modern Masters, Supraphon, Capstone Records, Querstand and others.
