International festival of choirs “Grand Prix Thailand” is growing projet, founded in 2007. The festival gained popularity and around Southeast Asia is building a privileged position among other similar projects. The main dramaturgical axis of Festival consists of Choir Competition Grand Prix which is open to amateur choirs, then the festival concerts and choral workshops. These activities are traditionally held at the hotel and convention center the Ambassador City Jomtien in Pattaya, Chonburi province, situated on the coast near Bangkok.
Every year as part of the festival is made a choral project in collaboration with the Bangkok Opera Foundation and the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra. The theme of the upcoming festival is Carl Orff – Carmina Burana accompanied by Siam Philharmonic Orchestra and a massive festival of choral ensemble composed of the festival Choirs – singers of many nationalities. Leading of the concert takes composer and conductor Somtow Sucharitkul – the world’s most famous artist of Thai origin and important promoter of the European musical tradition in Southeast Asia. Concert will be held on 21 July 2016 in the Thailand Culture Centre in Bangkok. Similar choral concerts are in the region of its extent and dramaturgy unique and follows the successful performances of symphonies of Gustav Mahler, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony or large contemporary works as Reqiem of the Mother of songs by Somtow Sucharitkul.
