Regulations and Categories

Regulations:

The competition is open to all types of choirs with at least four singers: mixed, male, female, youth, children’s, folkloristic, and others. The age for children’s choirs is 7 to 15 years old and the age for other choirs is above 16. The compositions and arrangements shall be sung in at least two voices for children’s choirs, and at least three voices for all other choirs. The pieces shall be performed in their original language. The programme shall consist of 3 to 4 compositions / arrangements. The duration of performances shall be 6-8 minutes for children’s choirs and 8-10 minutes for others. Every choir can apply to compete in one or two categories. The organizer will inform the choirs of the result of their application. The accepted choirs then have seven days to pay the registration fee.

Categories:

Category A1 – Classical Choral Music – Fixed Program

  • The programme shall consist of compositions (secular or sacral) of differing character and style, based on an idiom from serious music.
  • The compositions shall be sung a cappella, and one may be accompanied by piano.
  • At least one piece shall be based on the idiom of Istrian scale and Chakavian tradition.

Category A2 – Classical Choral Music – Free Program

  • The programme shall consist of compositions (secular or sacral) of differing character and style, based on an idiom from serious music.
  • The compositions shall be sung a cappella, and one may be accompanied by piano.

Category B1 – Folkloristic Choral Music – Fixed Program

  • The programme shall consist of compositions / arrangements based on musical idioms from any folkloristic (traditional) music (secular or sacral).
  • The compositions / arrangements shall be sung a cappella, and one piece may be accompanied by acoustic instruments.
  • At least one piece shall be based on the idiom of Istrian scales and Chakavian tradition.

Category B2 – Folkloristic Choral Music – Free Program

  • The programme shall consist of compositions / arrangements based on musical idioms from any folkloristic (traditional) music (secular or sacral).
  • The compositions / arrangements shall be sung a cappella, and one piece may be accompanied by acoustic instruments.

Category C1 – Popular Choral Music – Fixed Program

  • The programme shall consist of songs (secular or sacral) of differing character and style, based on an idiom from popular music.
  • The song may be sung a cappella or accompanied by acoustic instruments (piano, guitar, percussions, etc.).
  • At least one song shall be based on the idiom of Istrian scales and Chakavian tradition.

Category C2 – Popular Choral Music – Free Program

  • The programme shall consist of songs (secular or sacral) of differing character and style, based on an idiom from popular music.
  • The song may be sung a cappella or accompanied by acoustic instruments (piano, guitar, percussions, etc.).

Category D1 – Mixed Choral Music – Fixed Program

  • The programme shall consist of pieces (secular or sacral) of minimum two different categories.
  • The pieces may be sung a cappella or accompanied by acoustic instruments (piano, guitar, percussions, etc.).
  • One piece shall be sung a cappella.
  • At least one piece shall be based on the idiom of Istrian scales and Chakavian tradition.

Category D2 – Mixed Choral Music – Free Program

  • The programme shall consist of pieces (secular or sacral) of minimum two different categories.
  • The pieces may be sung a cappella or accompanied by acoustic instruments (piano, guitar, percussions, etc.).
