Competition rules

 

  1. Repertoire: Repertoire for the 1st round of the competition must include the following music in all choir categories:
  2. 1. a contemporary art music piece composed after 1960
    2. a contemporary art music piece composed between 1910 – 1960
    3. a composition from an era and a genre of the choir’s choice
    4. a composition from an era and a genre of the choir’s choice

  3. Instrumental accompaniment: In all competition categories at least one composition must be performed “a cappella”.
  4. Sound amplification and piano accompaniment: Performances in all categories will be running without microphones or other amplification devices. An acoustic or electric piano will be available for giving a starting note or accompaniment.

 
Children’s choirs – Age limit, number of singers, time limit

Age limit: All children’s choir categories are defined by an age limit. The age limit for the majority of singers is up to and including 18 years of age on the day of the competition. The organisers grant an exception for 10% of the total choir members, yet singers may exceed the age limit by a maximum of 2 years of age. This must be reported to the organisers in advance.

Number of singers: The minimum number of singers is 16.

Time limit: The singing time for children’s choirs is 10 minutes. The singing time excludes time taken by entering/exiting the stage, time between pieces or time incurred by applause. The total performance duration is 15 minutes. If the time limit is exceeded, the jury will terminate the competition performance.

 
Youth choirs – Age limit, number of singers, time limit

Age limit: All youth choir categories are defined by an age limit. The age limit for the majority of singers is up to and including 26 years of age on the day of the competition. The organisers grant an exception for 10% of the total choir members, yet singers may exceed the age limit by a maximum of 2 years of age. This must be reported to the organisers in advance.

Number of singers: The minimum number of singers is 16.

Time limit: The singing time for youth choirs is 15 minutes. The singing time excludes time taken by entering/exiting the stage, time between pieces or time incurred by applause. The total performance duration is 20 minutes. If the time limit is exceeded, the jury will terminate the competition performance.

 
Adult choirs – Age limit, number of singers, time limit

Age limit: There is no age limit in adult choir categories.

Number of singers: The minimum number of singers is 16.

Time limit: The singing time for adult choirs is 15 minutes. The singing time excludes time taken by entering/exiting the stage, time between pieces or time incurred by applause. The total performance duration is 20 minutes. If the time limit is exceeded, the jury will terminate the competition performance.

 
Chamber choirs – Age limit, number of singers, time limit

Age limit: There is no age limit in chamber choir categories.

Number of singers: The maximum number of singers is 16.

Time limit: The singing time for chamber choirs is 15 minutes. The singing time excludes time taken by entering/exiting the stage, time between pieces or time incurred by applause. The total performance duration is 20 minutes. If the time limit is exceeded, the jury will terminate the competition performance.

 
Senior choirs – Age limit, number of singers, time limit

Age limit: All singers must be over or including 50 years of age.

Number of singers: The minimum number of singers is 16.

Time limit: The singing time for senior choirs is 15 minutes. The singing time excludes time taken by entering/exiting the stage, time between pieces or time incurred by applause. The total performance duration is 20 minutes. If the time limit is exceeded, the jury will terminate the competition performance.
